A Thankful Heart is a Giving Heart
In 1 Chronicles 29, we see a great picture of thanksgiving in action. David and the people were giving willingly to build the temple. In the course of the story, the Bible tells us that through this giving, the people rejoiced “because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the LORD:” This was a time of great joy for the people because their giving lined up with their affections towards building the house of God.
The best part of this story is found in verse 13-14. David is leading the people in prayer and the Bible says “Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.” Not only was their giving fueled by thankfulness, the people were thankful for the opportunity to give back to the Lord what was already his.
Let us examine our attitude about giving. Our attitude will reveal how thankful we are for God’s blessings to us. It’s not what we have or how much we have that counts with God, but our willingness to give it.
